ONEIDA, N.Y. — November 19, 2025: The Oneida community is mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of 46-year-old Brandy LaFlesh, who tragically died following a deadly crash on the evening of November 18, 2025. What began as a routine traffic stop along State Route 365 in Verona turned into a devastating series of events that now leave a family, friends, and an entire neighborhood in shock and sorrow.

A Routine Traffic Stop That Preceded Tragedy

According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 9:18 p.m. when a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a Lexus SUV driven by LaFlesh for a minor violation. Before the deputy could run a warrant check from the Oneida City Court, LaFlesh fled the area. In accordance with the department’s no-pursuit policy, the deputy did not chase the vehicle in order to prioritize public safety.

Just over thirty minutes later, authorities discovered the same SUV had crashed on Blackmans Corners Road. First responders arrived to find Brandy LaFlesh had succumbed to injuries suffered in the crash. Her passenger, 56-year-old Michael Martino of the Town of Lee, sustained critical injuries and was urgently transported to Wynn Hospital for treatment.

The Criminal Investigation Unit and Forensic Identification Unit are actively reconstructing the crash to determine the sequence of events and bring clarity to the tragedy. Officials have emphasized their commitment to a thorough investigation in hopes of providing answers—and some measure of peace—to the grieving family and community.

    Remembering Brandy LaFlesh

Those closest to Brandy describe her as vibrant, spirited, and deeply rooted in the Oneida community she loved. She was admired for her kindness, dedication to her family, and the warmth she brought into the lives of others. Her sudden passing has created an enormous void—one that friends, neighbors, and loved ones are struggling to comprehend.

Community members are now rallying to honor Brandy’s memory, celebrate the joy she brought to others, and support her loved ones during this painful time. Many are also extending heartfelt prayers for the recovery of Michael Martino, who remains hospitalized.

    A Community Searching for Healing

This tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of life’s unpredictability and the value of community support in moments of deep loss. Local organizations, counselors, and faith leaders are offering assistance and resources for those affected emotionally by Brandy’s passing.

As investigators continue unraveling the circumstances behind the crash, the focus of many remains on celebrating Brandy’s life, comforting her family, and standing together as Oneida processes the heartbreak.

    A Legacy That Lives On

Though her life ended far too soon, Brandy LaFlesh will forever be remembered for the love, compassion, and light she poured into those around her. Her impact is etched in the hearts of everyone she touched, and the Oneida community mourns alongside her family as they honor her legacy.

May her soul rest in peace.
