The rom-com genre may be facing an uphill battle in Hollywood, but Regé-Jean Page is determined to keep it alive—one charming movie at a time. The Bridgerton star, 38, plays Michael in the upcoming romantic comedy You, Me and Tuscany, set to hit theaters on April 10. The film centers around a whimsical love story where Page’s character falls for Anna (Halle Bailey), who is pretending to be engaged to his cousin’s son in a desperate attempt to avoid being caught squatting in a luxurious Tuscan villa.

For Page, working on the film was a delightful escape from the ordinary. “We shot in Tuscany,” he shared at the NAACP Image Awards on February 28. “Five or six weeks in Tuscany, out in the sunshine, driving through vineyards. I ran my hand through that field of wheat that Russell Crowe goes through at the beginning of Gladiator.” The picturesque scenery and incredible food made for an ideal backdrop to a feel-good rom-com, and it was made even more enjoyable by working alongside Bailey.

Page described the experience of working with Bailey as nothing short of a joy. “We were just having a great time, making a movie about stepping into your best life,” he explained. For Page, rom-coms have always been about much more than just romance; they’re about aspirations, self-discovery, and learning to trust and communicate with others. “Every movie doesn’t have to be about who punches hardest,” he said. “It’s about talking things out, finding peace with yourself and others.”

For Page, who’s known for his dramatic roles in Bridgerton and The Gray Man, signing on to a rom-com felt like a perfect opportunity to bring lighthearted love stories back to the forefront. He acknowledged that the rom-com genre has been somewhat sidelined in recent years, but he’s hopeful about its revival. “The idea that the rom-com is dead—it might have been that,” Page mused. “Love definitely isn’t dead. Love will save us. And I’m happy to wave that flag.”

Bailey, 25, who stars opposite Page as Anna, also found herself drawn to the script, captivated by the story’s warmth and humor. “It captivated me right away,” she shared. Bailey had long been a fan of Page’s work and was thrilled to find out they’d be sharing the screen together. “I was so excited because I’m a fan,” she said, recalling her excitement upon meeting him at the 2025 Met Gala before filming began. “I remember I saw him. You were wearing all red,” she laughed. “I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, cool.’”

The pair quickly hit it off, forming a close bond both on and off screen. “I’m nervous, but we’re doing a movie together, I’m going to just go up,” Bailey recalled of the first time they met. Their chemistry is evident in the film, with both stars bringing an infectious energy to the screen as they navigate the ups and downs of love in one of the world’s most romantic settings.

You, Me and Tuscany promises to be a heartwarming return to the classic rom-com formula—full of charm, humor, and the undeniable magic of love. With Page’s charismatic presence and Bailey’s captivating performance, the film looks set to breathe new life into a genre that many thought had seen its heyday. As for Page, he remains optimistic about the future of rom-coms and the role love plays in the stories that still have the power to captivate audiences. “Love will save us,” he said, a sentiment that perfectly sums up the spirit of You, Me and Tuscany.
