DUBLIN, Ireland — The search for missing toddler Daniel Aruebose has ended in tragedy after skeletal remains, believed to be his, were discovered in a field off Portrane Road in Donabate. Gardaí confirmed the grim find following weeks of painstaking investigations.

    What Happened

Authorities revealed that the discovery came after the Department of Social Protection flagged concerns over a child support application in late August 2025. Those concerns were referred to Tusla, Ireland’s child and family agency, which then alerted Gardaí.

Extensive searches, including house-to-house inquiries and a technical examination of Daniel’s former home at The Gallery Apartments in Donabate, ultimately led investigators to a field nearby, where skeletal remains were uncovered.

    Who Was Daniel Aruebose

Daniel was only three years old when he was last seen, believed to have gone missing sometime between 2021 and 2022. His disappearance was not publicly known until recently, sparking questions about how his case went unnoticed for so long.

    Investigation and Next Steps

While formal identification is pending DNA analysis, Gardaí believe the remains are Daniel’s. Forensic pathologists have said there is “little to go on” regarding the cause of death due to the partial nature of the remains.

Officials have confirmed that one person of interest in the case is currently abroad, and arrests are expected once sufficient evidence is gathered. Gardaí continue to appeal for any information from the public as they build their case.

    Public and Government Response

The discovery has raised serious questions about oversight by Tusla and other agencies, particularly since their engagement with Daniel’s family ended in 2020. Critics argue the tragedy highlights gaps in Ireland’s child protection system.

Minister for Children Norma Foley described the development as “an unimaginable tragedy,” expressing condolences to those affected and pledging a thorough review of how the case was handled.
