Human remains discovered near a well-loved hiking trail in Truckee have been confirmed to belong to 62-year-old Gordon Simons, say the Truckee Police Department. The news brings a heart-wrenching close to a search that began when his family reported him missing earlier this month.
According to police, Simons had been unreachable for some time before his loved ones alerted authorities. In response, an exhaustive search was launched, with help from the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators focused on an area near his home — specifically the stretch of trail alongside Highway 89 South and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.
