Today, we remember and honor Captain Eleanor Grace Alexander, an Army nurse who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Her bravery, selflessness, and dedication continue to inspire, and her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who remember her.

    A Life of Service

Eleanor Alexander joined the Army Nurse Corps in May 1967, after working as an operating room nurse in a Manhattan hospital. Driven by a desire to serve, she deployed to Vietnam, where she served at the 85th Evacuation Hospital in Qui Nhon. Her compassionate care for wounded soldiers reflected her unwavering commitment to helping others during one of the most challenging times in history.

    A Tragic Loss

On November 30, 1967, while en route to assist at a hospital in Pleiku, Captain Alexander tragically lost her life in a plane crash near Qui Nhon. She was just 27 years old. Her death left a lasting void, not only in her family but also among the soldiers she cared for and the many who admired her courage.

    Honoring Her Sacrifice

Captain Eleanor Alexander’s sacrifice is forever honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, where her name is etched alongside those who gave their lives in service to our country. Her commitment to her fellow soldiers and her dedication to her mission exemplify the values of courage and selflessness.

    Closing Line

God bless Captain Eleanor Grace Alexander forever, and may we always remember her as the hero she was.
