In the early hours of Saturday, December 6, 2025, a tragic hit-and-run in the Bronx claimed the life of 27-year-old Shariq Bryant, a much-loved local of the Williamsbridge neighborhood. The shocking loss has left friends, family, and neighbors struggling to process the sudden void left by his absence.

According to authorities from the NYPD, Bryant was struck by an eastbound 2025 BMW M8 as he attempted to cross East 222nd Street from north to south around 12:15 a.m., mid-block — not at an intersection. The BMW then continued on, lost control, and crashed into a telephone pole at the corner of East 222nd Street and Boston Road. The driver fled the scene on foot.

Emergency responders transported Bryant to Jacobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead after suffering severe trauma. A 28-year-old front-seat passenger in the BMW survived with minor injuries and did not require hospitalization. As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made, and the driver remains unidentified.

News outlets covering the tragedy note that street at the crash site still bore visible signs of the accident on Monday: a shattered windshield, tire tracks, and spilled fuel. Across the street, a growing vigil of candles, flowers, and notes has sprung up — a quiet but powerful testament to the grief felt by a community in mourning.

In the wake of Bryant’s death, a fundraiser started by his family has drawn heartfelt tributes. On their page, loved ones described him as “truly one of a kind — a warm, caring, and deeply loving soul whose presence made every room brighter.” They recalled his ability to make others feel seen, valued, and uplifted — gestures that, for many, defined him.

Friends, family, and neighbors say Bryant’s kindness and compassion left an indelible mark — not because of grand gestures, but in everyday moments: sharing a laugh, offering support, or simply being present in times of joy or need. Those small acts of warmth now form the core of the memory many hold dear.

As the community awaits answers and justice, the investigation into the hit-and-run remains active. Meanwhile, the memorial outside the crash site continues to grow, a humble but potent symbol of love, grief, and remembrance.

If you have information about the crash or the driver’s whereabouts, authorities urge you to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline.
