A family in Midlothian, Texas, is on edge after a shocking incident where a person appeared to set their home on fire while they slept. On August 12, around 1 a.m., six adults and two children were inside their house when flames erupted.
The Nightmare Unfolds
Footage shared by local news showed a hooded figure pouring gasoline around the home and igniting it before fleeing the scene. Thankfully, one family member, Malia Wilson, was still awake. She noticed the security lights flickering and saw flames through the living room window. Malia quickly woke her father, Darryl, and called 911.
Darryl initially thought he was dreaming when Malia warned him. “I looked at her and said, ‘Okay, I’m dreaming,’” he recalled. His wife, Wahsheida, was equally shocked, wondering who could commit such a crime against their family.
Before the fire could spread, Darryl tried to douse it with cups of water and pots while Wahsheida reviewed the security footage to identify the arsonist. Darryl’s daughter, Mylah, shared clips of the incident on social media, urging others to help find the person responsible.
Incredibly, no one was hurt in the fire. However, the family now takes turns staying awake at night, watching over each other and their home. “We’re on rotation, just staying up at night,” Wahsheida explained.
Darryl expressed his concern, reflecting on how much worse the situation could have been. He mentioned that the trauma has left his family shaken, prompting them to consider moving for their safety. The Midlothian Police Department is investigating the case as an arson offense, but the family does not recognize the individual from the footage.
As they navigate this difficult time, the Wilson family hopes for answers and a return to normalcy.
