In Stockton, California, an 8-year-old girl named Maya Lupian was among those killed at a birthday party. The shooting happened on Saturday night.
Maya’s family shared that she was a bright and happy child. They said she was good at school and loved doing things outside of school too. Her birthday was coming up soon, and they are heartbroken that she won’t get to celebrate it.
Maya’s sister said that Maya was loved by her family, including her parents, brothers, nieces, and many friends.
The shooting happened at a party for a 2-year-old. About 100 people were there. Sadly, three children (ages 8, 8, and 14) and a 21-year-old man were killed.
A mom at the party said she thought the gunshots were balloons popping.
The police are still looking for the people who did this. They are working hard to find them.
