Late Saturday night, a moment of calm in the Powderly neighborhood of Birmingham shattered when 31-year-old Jeremiah Stone was fatally shot while riding with a friend. According to the Birmingham Police Department, officers responded around 11:20 p.m. on November 8, 2025, to the 1800 block of Henry-Crumpton Drive after receiving reports of a person shot. Upon arrival they found Stone lying unresponsive in the roadway with a gunshot wound. Fire and Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene.
While the initial call was for a single shooting, investigators soon discovered a second victim: the friend traveling with Stone. That individual was located at a different address a short time later — the 2500 block of John Bryant Road — and transported to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators believe the two had been in the same vehicle when someone opened fire.
The motive remains under investigation. Detectives are working to determine if the shooting stemmed from a dispute earlier in the day.
