Shortly after midnight Friday, a routine drive home turned into a nightmare when gunfire erupted, a high-speed chase ensued, and a crash claimed the life of a young woman and left a man injured.

At around 12:14 a.m., Las Vegas Metropolitan Police communications received a frantic call from a man who said he was being chased and shot at by another vehicle near Lindell and Robindale roads in the southwest valley.

Police arriving on scene found two mangled vehicles and a woman lying motionless in the street, having apparently been ejected from one of them. Despite attempts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A short distance away, investigators found a man—believed to have been traveling with the woman—suffering injuries from the crash. He was transported to a nearby hospital, classified as non–life threatening.

Through early investigation, police believe the couple were driving home when a vehicle began tailing them. At least one occupant of that pursuing car opened fire. In response, the victims sped up, but lost control of their vehicle, ejecting themselves as it flipped or crashed. The chasing car was unable to stop and collided with their vehicle. Its occupants fled on foot before police arrived.

All occupants of both cars disappeared before officers arrived. Detectives from both the LVMPD Homicide Unit and the Fatal Detail are working together to unravel exactly what happened and to find those at fault.

The identity of the woman has not yet been released; the Clark County coroner’s office must confirm her identity. Authorities are urging anyone with information to reach out to the LVMPD Homicide Section at 702-828-3521 or via email to [email protected]. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or online.

This violent collision, arising from a chase and gunfire in a city’s quiet early hours, has left a community shaken—and a case that homicide detectives now must piece together before those who fled the scene vanish for good.
