Washington State: Remains Confirmed as Father Suspected in Daughters’ Deaths
WENATCHEE, Wash. – Authorities in Washington state have confirmed that human remains found on Grindstone Mountain are those of Travis Decker, the former soldier wanted in connection with the deaths of his three young daughters. The bodies of Paityn Decker, Evelyn Decker, and Olivia Decker, ages 9, 8, and 5, were discovered at a campsite near the location where Decker’s remains were found.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office stated that DNA tests confirmed the identity of the remains. Sheriff Mike Morrison expressed his hope that the resolution of the case would bring some measure of peace to the girls’ mother, Whitney Decker.
Decker had a history of mental health issues, which his former wife had previously raised concerns about in court documents, seeking to limit his overnight visits with their children. He was a veteran who served in the Army from 2013 to 2021, including a deployment to Afghanistan.
The search for Decker involved a large-scale effort by multiple state and federal agencies. The U.S. Marshals Service offered a reward for information leading to his capture. The coroner’s office is currently working to determine the cause and time of Decker’s death. The community is left to grapple with this tragedy, highlighting the importance of supporting mental health and the well-being of veterans and families.
