Amite, LA — The St. Helena Parish community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 78-year-old William Thomas Sharp, a beloved resident who was tragically killed on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
According to law enforcement, the incident occurred at 9656 Hwy 43 in Amite, prompting a swift and active investigation by the St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office.

William Sharp is being remembered as a warm, compassionate, and generous man who consistently brightened the lives of the people around him. Known for his friendly spirit and selfless heart, William embodied what it truly meant to care for others. Family members and neighbors recall his love for gatherings, his willingness to help without hesitation, and the countless small acts of kindness that defined his life.

Authorities quickly identified a suspect in his death: Shane William Travis (DOB: 6/20/2001). Travis has been taken into custody and charged with First Degree Murder as investigators continue to gather details surrounding the tragedy.

Loved ones describe William as a devoted father, grandfather, and friend—a man whose presence brought comfort and belonging. His influence, they say, will continue to live on through the people whose lives he touched and the compassion he shared so freely.

The St. Helena Parish community has rallied together in support of the Sharp family during this difficult time, offering prayers, condolences, and a strong sense of unity as they navigate their grief.

Funeral arrangements are currently being finalized. The family aims to honor William’s life with a service that reflects his gentle nature and the profound impact he made within the community. Although his passing has left a painful void, his legacy of kindness, humility, and love will endure for years to come.

Authorities urge anyone with information related to the case to contact the St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office as the investigation continues.

William Thomas Sharp will forever be remembered for the life he lived, the hearts he lifted, and the love he shared. His absence is deeply felt, but his memory will remain a guiding light in the St. Helena Parish community.
