Amber O. Deneen, a 30-year-old from St. Paul, has been confirmed by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner as the woman who was struck and killed in a hit-and-run Thursday evening at the intersection of St. Anthony Avenue and Aldine Street. Emergency responders found her around 5:15 p.m. with a severely fractured femur and head trauma. She was rushed to Regions Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

According to St. Paul police, witnesses described the fleeing vehicle as a dark-colored SUV that left the scene moments after the impact. Law enforcement has launched an active search for both the driver and the vehicle, urging anyone with footage or information to come forward.

Neighbors in the area say dangerous driving is an ongoing issue on St. Anthony Avenue. One resident, Shay Bolton, shared that her own home security camera recorded a vehicle matching the description speeding past just before the crash. Several others report street racing, poor lighting, and reckless driving becoming disturbingly commonplace in the neighborhood.

Community members are deeply shaken by Deneen’s loss. Justin Kolb, who lives nearby, expressed frustration that the stretch of road has long lacked traffic calming measures: “Speed bumps or raised crosswalks could make a real difference,” he said. Bolton echoed that sentiment, noting that families with young children live on her block and often feel unsafe — their pleas for more safety infrastructure have gone unheeded.

In the days since the crash, neighborhood residents plan to hold a vigil at the very spot where Deneen was struck. Bolton told CBS Minnesota they will gather Monday at 5:15 p.m. — precisely when the crash happened — to honor her memory and call for accountability.

St. Paul Police spokesperson Nikki Muehlhausen confirmed that no arrests have been made yet. The department is considering all possible leads and is urging people with any relevant video or eyewitness accounts to call their Homicide Unit at 651-266-5650.

Deneen’s death is a heartbreaking reminder of how vulnerable pedestrians can be — and how quickly a moment can turn tragic. Until the person responsible is found, her friends, family, and neighbors are left grappling with grief — and demanding justice.
