Actor Sterling K. Brown recently opened up about a difficult experience involving his son, Andrew, during a soccer game. The incident showcased not only the challenges of growing up but also the values Brown instills in his children.

During an event promoting the new season of his Hulu show Paradise, the Emmy-winning actor recalled how his 14-year-old son faced the N-word from another player. Instead of reacting with aggression, Andrew chose to calmly report the incident to the referee, demonstrating remarkable maturity.

Brown revealed that after the game, Andrew told him about the verbal attack. When asked why he didn’t retaliate, the young boy said, “That wouldn’t have solved anything.” This response surprised Brown, who admitted he might have reacted differently in his youth. “I would’ve beaten him up!” he noted, reflecting on his own past.

As a father of two, including younger son Amaré, Brown told reporters that being a dad is his most important role. He expressed awe at how his children grow and learn new skills, emphasizing the joy he finds in watching them evolve.

Brown, who has worked on various projects around the world, highlighted that balancing his career with family is crucial. “For the next nine years, I want to keep working in L.A. and not miss too much of their growing up,” he stated.

Ultimately, Brown’s experience illustrates the importance of teaching children resilience and compassion. He hopes that his sons will continue to grow even better than he did, embodying values of maturity and understanding.
