Jamaica, Queens, New York – Takira “Kiki” Spruill, a 41-year-old mother of three, was tragically murdered on January 28, 2025, inside the South Jamaica Houses, also known as the “40 Projects”. Takira was attacked by her boyfriend, Jemay Pollard, in a brutal act of violence that claimed her life after she fought desperately for survival in the hallway of her apartment complex. Her story is a devastating reminder of the dangers of obsession and control in abusive relationships.

    The Heartbreaking Attack

The attack occurred around 5:00 a.m., when Takira, who was just 5 feet tall and weighed 100 pounds, encountered Pollard while walking with a friend. Pollard, who had been on his way to work, got off a bus and followed Takira into a nearby store. What started as an argument quickly escalated into violence, with Takira trying to defend herself as Pollard relentlessly stalked her and her friend to a nearby apartment.

Inside the apartment, Takira’s friend, Jasmine, tried to intervene by suggesting that they take the argument into the hallway. What followed next was horrifying: Neighbors heard Takira pleading, “Just leave,” but moments later, Jasmine looked out to see Pollard choking Takira. In a desperate attempt to pull him off, Jasmine was slashed with a knife on her hand. She fled back into the apartment, leaving Takira alone to fight for her life.

The Final Moments of Takira’s Life

According to investigators, Pollard had stolen two kitchen knives earlier that night and used them to escalate the violence. He threw Takira down the stairs and proceeded to choke her to death in the hallway. Takira’s small frame was overpowered by Pollard’s full rage and jealousy, ultimately taking her life in a cruel and senseless act of violence.

In an act of sheer cruelty, after killing her, Pollard took a photo of Takira’s lifeless body and sent it to his friend Fredrick, who then shared it around the neighborhood instead of calling the police or her family. This final act of desecration has deepened the family’s grief and pain beyond words.

    A Vibrant Life Stolen

Known in her community as “Da Social Butterfly”, Takira was a bubbly, confident, and energetic person who was deeply loved by those around her. Her family describes her as a woman who had so much more to give. Pollard’s obsessive and possessive behavior had grown more alarming over time, with friends recalling how he would stand silently behind Takira in public, glaring at anyone who dared to greet her.

Takira leaves behind three children, who must now grow up without their beautiful, loving mother. Her life was stolen by the very person who claimed to love her—a person who, in his rage, took everything from her.

    Seeking Justice

Pollard is currently in jail awaiting trial, and Takira’s family is determined to spread awareness of her case and seek justice. They ask for accountability and demand that obsession and control in relationships be recognized as the dangerous behaviors they are.

    How You Can Help

Takira’s family has asked for the public’s help in bringing justice to Takira Spruill. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the New York City Police Department.

Takira’s story must not be forgotten. Her family is determined to ensure that her life and the violence she faced will not be silenced. This case serves as a powerful reminder of how obsession, control, and violence can destroy lives, and how we must act to protect those at risk.
