Tchéky Karyo, the Turkish-born French actor best known for his roles in La Femme Nikita, GoldenEye, and The Patriot, has passed away at the age of 72 after a battle with cancer. His family confirmed the news to the French news agency AFP on Friday.

    A Late-Blooming Career:

Born in Turkey in 1953, Karyo began his acting career later than most, making a significant impact in his early 30s. His breakthrough came in 1982 with the acclaimed crime thriller La Balance, which earned him a César Award nomination for Most Promising Actor. This marked the start of a five-decade-long career in film and television, where Karyo would become a prominent figure in French cinema and beyond.

    A Legacy of Iconic Roles:

Over the years, Karyo appeared in numerous beloved French films, including La Femme Nikita and The Bear. He also made a name for himself in Hollywood with standout roles. Spy movie fans will remember him as Dmitri Mishkin, the Russian Minister of Defence, in the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye.

In 2000, Karyo played Major Jean Villeneuve in The Patriot, starring Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger. His other notable credits include Taking Lives, The Way, and Wing Commander. Additionally, Karyo starred in the popular TV show Baptiste, showcasing his versatility and enduring talent.

    Personal Life:

Karyo is survived by his wife of more than two decades, fellow actor Valérie Keruzoré, and their two children. His death marks the loss of a beloved actor who left an indelible mark on both French and international cinema.

    Closing Line:

Tchéky Karyo’s legacy will live on through his unforgettable performances across a range of genres. Rest in peace, Tchéky. You will be greatly missed.
