A young girl from Texas, just 15 years old, lost her life on New Year’s Day in a shooting.
Brynnlee Hampton, a high school student, was in a car with other teenagers in Amarillo, Texas. Someone in the car was reportedly playing with a gun, and it went off, hitting Brynnlee.
Another teen, Jeremiah Luke Lajuan Matthews, who is 17, is now facing a serious charge of manslaughter. Another 17-year-old, Landrey Korde Matthews, is accused of trying to hide the gun after the shooting.
Authorities say that several young people were in the car when the gun was being waved around. The gun went off, and Brynnlee was hit. She was quickly taken to a hospital, but sadly, she didn’t make it.
Jeremiah and Landrey were taken into custody on January 1st.
People are remembering Brynnlee as a bright and athletic girl who loved playing volleyball. A fundraising page has been set up to help her family with funeral costs. Friends and family say she was a kind person who loved her family and her faith. Her volleyball team said she was a light both on and off the court, and they are heartbroken by her loss.
