Two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Terry McLaurin has requested a trade from the Washington Commanders due to a disagreement over his contract, according to sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

McLaurin has been participating in training camp, but he did miss the first four practices while contract negotiations were ongoing. He has reported to camp, yet he remains on the physically unable to perform list due to an ankle injury.

Last season, the Commanders made a strong playoff run under coach Dan Quinn and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, reaching the NFC championship game. The team has strengthened its roster by acquiring wide receiver Deebo Samuel in the offseason and is focused on competing against the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the competitive NFC East.

Last year, McLaurin had an impressive season with 82 receptions, 1,096 receiving yards, and a career-high 13 touchdowns, which earned him second-team All-Pro recognition.

In recent years, several star players have similarly requested trades related to contract disputes but ultimately stayed with their teams. Notable examples include Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and Browns star Myles Garrett. Deebo Samuel also sought a trade from the 49ers before eventually securing a new deal in San Francisco, before being traded to Washington.

As the situation unfolds, fans and analysts alike are keeping a close eye on McLaurin’s future with the Commanders.
