In the quiet pre-dawn hours of Sunday, Nov. 16, a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of East 56th Avenue and Potomac Way, on the northern edge of Denver’s Montbello neighborhood, claimed the lives of three young people: 22-year-old Ariana Barrera-Ybarra, 23-year-old Raul Fraire, and 28-year-old Cristian Barrera-Ybarra.

According to the Denver Police Department, officers responded shortly before 1 a.m. and later confirmed that all three occupants of the vehicle sustained fatal injuries. The city’s Office of the Medical Examiner reported that Ariana Barrera-Ybarra and Raul Fraire were declared dead at the scene, while Cristian was transported by ambulance to a hospital, where he later passed away.

The medical examiner determined their cause of death to be multiple blunt-force injuries, and officially classified the incident as an accident. No signs of foul play or other vehicles being involved have been publicly disclosed.

Authorities have not released detailed information about what led to the crash. An early update from police stated that the circumstances leading up to the accident remain under investigation, and no further identifying details were initially provided. Emergency responders did not report any third vehicle or evidence of other external involvement at the time.

The location of the crash is notable: it sits right next to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, marking a quiet, less densely traveled part of Montbello. That fact adds a tragic solemnity — a violent collision in an otherwise tranquil stretch of road.

While the investigation continues, city officials and community members are left grappling with the shock of three young lives ended so abruptly. Families are mourning deeply, and the broader Denver community is left wondering how this could have happened.

Authorities have indicated they may share more as the investigation proceeds, but for now, the full picture remains incomplete. Meanwhile, loved ones of Ariana, Raul, and Cristian are navigating a grief no one should have to face, as their lives are remembered in the silence of that early Sunday morning.
