Senator Stands Firm on Fed Nominee Until Investigation Ends

Washington, D.C. – Senator Thom Tillis, a Republican from North Carolina, has declared he will oppose any new appointments to the Federal Reserve leadership. This stance is in response to the ongoing investigation into the current Fed Chairman, Jerome Powell.

Senator Tillis stated that while he believes Kevin Warsh, a potential nominee, is well-qualified, he cannot support any nominee while the Department of Justice is investigating Chairman Powell. The investigation centers around how Powell managed a major renovation project at the Fed’s headquarters and statements he made to Congress about the project’s costs and timeline.

The heart of the matter seems to be the independence of the Federal Reserve. The Fed is supposed to make decisions about the nation’s money supply and interest rates without political pressure. Some worry that the investigation into Chairman Powell is really an attempt to push him to lower interest rates, something President Trump has publicly favored.

Representative Brad Sherman, a Democrat, echoed these concerns, suggesting the investigation is linked to President Trump’s desire for lower interest rates.

Senator Tillis emphasized that shielding the Federal Reserve from political influence is essential. He insists that no nominee will receive his support until the investigation into Chairman Powell is resolved in a clear and open manner.
