SEGuin, Texas — Before the morning rush had even kicked in, the quiet of dawn gave way to tragedy. At about 6:36 a.m. Wednesday, a white Hino straight truck veered off Interstate 10, crashing down onto the State Highway 123 Bypass below. In the chaos, it struck a gray sedan and then landed atop a red sedan. The driver of that red car, 63-year-old Anthony Stephenson of Seguin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the truck was heading westbound on I-10 when it somehow left the roadway and fell onto the northbound lanes of SH 123 Bypass. It struck the gray sedan first, then came down directly on the red sedan, with catastrophic force. The impact crushed the smaller vehicles beneath the weight of the heavy rig.

First responders—including Seguin Fire, EMS, and police—arrived quickly to the tangled wreckage. They worked to free trapped occupants, their efforts complicated by the sheer destruction. When the dust settled, authorities confirmed what they feared: Anthony Stephenson, the driver of the red car, had died from his injuries.

The drivers of both the truck and the gray sedan survived, though they were seriously injured and rushed to local hospitals. Officials say their wounds are serious but not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

Traffic in both directions of SH 123 Bypass was shut down for several hours as investigators combed the scene, documenting skid marks, estimating trajectories, and trying to trace exactly how the truck left the interstate. Around midday, authorities reopened the intersection.

At present, no definitive cause has been announced. Investigators are considering several possibilities, including mechanical failure, loss of control, or driver fatigue—but nothing has been ruled in (or out). The Seguin Police Department’s Traffic Unit continues probing.

This tragedy has shaken the Seguin community. Neighbors and local officials have expressed sorrow and sympathy for Anthony Stephenson’s family. At the same time, many have praised first responders for their rapid, courageous work in a harrowing wake-up call to how fragile life becomes when massive machinery meets small vehicles. Authorities are urging motorists everywhere to stay vigilant, especially in high-speed zones and near bridges and overpasses, until the cause of this devastating crash is fully understood.
