The La Grande community is in shock after the tragic discovery of two missing individuals—29-year-old Dale Burke and 16-year-old Drake Hill—whose bodies were found on Friday in a vast area in northeastern La Grande. What began as two separate missing person investigations has ended in profound sorrow, leaving families, friends, and the entire town grieving the loss of these young lives.

    What Happened:

On Friday morning, around 11:30 a.m., La Grande Police Department officers were conducting follow-up work on an ongoing investigation when they discovered the body of Dale Burke, who had been missing since October 27. Dale was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. As soon as his body was discovered, the area was secured, and an investigation was initiated.

Just ten minutes later, police found the remains of 16-year-old Drake Hill, who had been missing since November 3. Drake, too, appeared to have succumbed to a self-inflicted injury. The two bodies were discovered in the same field, about 100 yards apart, raising concerns, although early reports suggest the deaths were independent of each other.

    Investigation and Community Support:

The Major Crimes Team was mobilized, including personnel from the La Grande Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, and the Union County District Attorney’s Office, to ensure a thorough investigation. While there is no suspicion of foul play, investigators are working diligently to examine all evidence and circumstances surrounding the deaths.

To assist the families, a police chaplain and a Victim’s Advocate were brought to the scene to support next-of-kin notifications, providing compassionate care and presence during such a difficult time.

    A Community Grieves:

The deaths of Dale and Drake have deeply affected the La Grande community. Their families are left to navigate a grief that words can scarcely describe, and the town is grappling with the tragic loss of two young lives. The discovery of the bodies has brought to light the silent struggles many face, and the community is being reminded of the importance of supporting one another during difficult times.

In memory of Dale and Drake, the community has united in grief and remembrance, offering love and support to the families during their most difficult moments.

    A Call for Support:

In light of these tragedies, mental health professionals encourage anyone facing emotional struggles to seek help. Support is available, and no one should feel alone in their battles. The La Grande community is reminded of the importance of offering compassion, reaching out, and providing a safety net for those who might be struggling in silence.

    Closing Line:

This story may be updated with more information as the investigation continues and further details emerge.
