Lockdown at UMass Lowell After Armed Man Reported

On September 3, the University of Massachusetts Lowell was on lockdown for several hours due to reports of a man seen holding what appeared to be a gun on campus.

Police from both UMass Lowell and the city of Lowell responded quickly after being alerted about a man on South Campus. The university reported there was “no report of a shooting.”

Emergency messages described the individual as a 5’5″ Asian male wearing a gray or white sweatshirt and black shorts, carrying a long object that was suspected to be a weapon.

Local and state police confirmed they were aware of a video showing a person walking in Lowell near the Riverview Suites and launched a thorough search of the area.

The lockdown, which put the campus under a shelter-in-place order, was lifted later when authorities concluded the suspect was no longer nearby.

Trooper Brandon Doherty of the Massachusetts State Police stated there were no reports of shots fired or any injuries. He encouraged anyone with information, photos, or videos related to the incident to reach out to the Lowell Police Department.

The FBI Boston also confirmed its involvement in the investigation and advised the public to stay alert and report any suspicious behavior.

This situation is still developing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
