On a quiet Friday evening in Vivian, Louisiana, tragedy struck when a police officer was fatally wounded while officers served a warrant — touching off a tense standoff that ended only after hours of negotiation.

Law enforcement responded around 5:28 p.m. on November 14 to a home in the 1700 block of North Pine Street, where officers were executing a cyberstalking warrant. According to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, when they knocked on the door, the suspect, identified as 58-year-old Nicholas Edward Alexander, allegedly fired through the closed door. The gunfire struck Officer Marc Brock, who was rushed to North Caddo Medical Center and later died from his wounds.

Immediately after the shooting, deputies formed a wide perimeter around the house. More than 50 units arrived on the scene, pulling in multiple agencies: the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Vivian Police Department, Louisiana State Police, Minden Police, Shreveport Police, and regional SWAT teams.

For roughly three hours, negotiators tried to bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion. Inside the home, Alexander remained barricaded. As the night wore on, the tension only grew — but despite that, no further shots were reported.

Finally, at approximately 9:10 p.m., Alexander surrendered without further incident. He was evaluated by emergency medical services and then taken into custody by Caddo Parish deputies.

Once in custody, Alexander was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center, facing charges of second-degree murder and cyberstalking. Officials have said more charges may follow as the investigation continues.

Sheriff Henry Whitehorn expressed deep sorrow over the loss, calling the night “devastating” for law enforcement and for the small Vivian community. He praised Officer Brock’s courage, honor, and commitment — vowing that his service “will never be forgotten.”

At this time, authorities are still investigating. The name of the fallen officer was initially withheld pending family notification, and the case remains active.
