A man wanted for murder is dead following a tense car chase and gunfight with police in Richardson, Texas. The pursuit began on Monday afternoon when officers attempted to stop the suspect, identified as Donald Ingram, who was wanted in connection with the killing of his wife, Michelle Ingram, in Kaufman County.
Around 3:50 p.m., a Richardson police officer spotted a vehicle matching the description linked to the murder investigation. After confirming the vehicle’s connection, the officer tried to stop Ingram, but instead of pulling over, he sped away, leading to a high-speed chase through the city.
According to Richardson Police Chief Gary Tittle, the situation escalated when Ingram opened fire on the officers pursuing him. In response, at least one officer returned fire. The shootout turned the chase into a dangerous and chaotic event.
During the pursuit, Ingram also allegedly shot a female passenger twice. Despite her critical injuries, she remained in the vehicle. The chase ended near U.S. Highway 75 and Esperanza Road, where Ingram reportedly shot himself before officers could approach.
Police found Ingram unresponsive with a gunshot wound believed to be self-inflicted. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured woman was given immediate medical attention and later taken to a hospital. Her condition is currently unknown.
Three other passengers, a 17-year-old, a 15-year-old, and a 5-year-old, were also in the car at the time. None of them were injured, but their connection to Ingram is unclear, and their involvement in the incident is under investigation.
Chief Tittle confirmed that no officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire, although one officer has been placed on administrative leave as part of the standard procedure in such incidents. The Dallas Police Department is assisting with the investigation, which is also being overseen by the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.
The incident caused significant traffic delays, with the highway closed for several hours as investigators processed the scene. Authorities are continuing to gather information about the chase, the shooting, and what led Ingram to turn his weapon on both his passenger and the police.
This tragic event comes after the murder of Michelle Ingram and leaves many questions about Donald Ingram’s motives and actions. The involvement of several passengers, including minors, adds complexity to the case as investigators work to uncover the full details.
Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses, with authorities focusing on ensuring the safety of those involved and determining the scope of any criminal activity.
