LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville Metro Police cruisers descended upon Waterfront Park Friday night after multiple gunshots were fired near the base of Big Four Bridge.
LMPD spokesperson Sgt. Matt Sanders said officers arrived around 7:30 p.m. and heard gunshots as hundreds of teenagers and adults were crowded in the area.
Two groups of teenagers and young adults exchanged gunfire in the area, Sanders said, and the large crowd fled. Police aren’t aware of anyone that was actually shot, he said.
Robby Hayes, 12, said he came to the park with his step-father Friday tonight but quickly left the area once they saw and heard the chaos.
“There were a group of boys with guns, and they were just doing dumb stuff at the benches at the park,” Robby said.
Officers quickly closed a portion of River Road and secured the scene, Sanders said. Three teenagers were arrested between the ages of 13 and 16, and officers also seized a gun from the scene.
