A Minneapolis woman identified as 39-year-old Danielle Lee Boyd was struck and killed Wednesday morning while crossing Highway 27 in Mille Lacs County — a crash that’s now under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.
Around 6:27 a.m., a northbound 2012 Cadillac CTS traveling near 400th Street, just southeast of the town of Isle, struck Boyd as she attempted to cross the highway.

Emergency crews, including the Mille Lacs County sheriff’s office, Isle police, and fire departments, were quickly dispatched to the scene. Despite their efforts, Boyd was pronounced dead at the site before she could be transported for medical care.
Authorities noted the roadway had been snow- and ice-covered at the time of the crash, conditions that may have contributed to this tragic accident. The driver of the Cadillac, a 41-year-old Isle man, reportedly escaped injury.
Investigators are now reviewing all circumstances around the collision — including road conditions, visibility, and whether the location was suitable for safe pedestrian crossing — as part of their comprehensive crash scene examination.
News of Boyd’s death has sent waves of grief through communities in both Mille Lacs County and Minneapolis. Friends and relatives mourn the sudden loss of a life cut short. While her reasons for being on the highway early that morning haven’t been made public, the tragedy is a stark reminder of how dangerous it can be when pedestrians and vehicles share high-speed roads.
Authorities continue to urge anyone with information about the incident — no matter how small — to come forward. As the investigation unfolds, local officials also hope this serves as a warning: in icy conditions especially, both drivers and those on foot must stay alert.
