LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Mourners are saying their final goodbyes to the Louisville Metro Corrections officer who was shot and killed in the Russell neighborhood last month.
Michael Wehdah, 44, was found shot to death in an alley in the 2700 block of Cedar Street in the city’s Russell neighborhood Feb. 16.
Police are still searching for his killer.
Visitation started at 10 a.m. Friday at Fern Creek Baptist Church at 5902 Bardstown Road and continues until 5 p.m. There will also be a Fraternal Order of Police service at 4 p.m.
Louisville Metro Corrections Chief Jerry Collins said Wehdah had been with the department since 2024 and called Wehdah “a great man.”
Collins said Wehdah “immediately made an impact with officers with his work ethic and how he conducted himself,” comparing his death to losing a family member.
“It’s a new family, it’s your work family, and everybody comes together,” Collins said. “It’s heart-wrenching.”
Wehdah’s funeral will be held at the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.
A memorial fund for his family has raised more than $10,000.
