Police officers have been searching for Junghee Kim, 54, Taehee Kim, 59, and Jiyeon Lee, 33, in Arizona since March 13. They have not been seen or heard from since that day.
Their last known location was near a pile-up on I-40 near Williams that involved 22 vehicles and caused a fire that burned for over 20 hours. At least 2 people died and 16 were injured in the multi-vehicle crash on the snowy and icy interstate, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
A few days after the collision, officials identified the 2 people who died as Juan Beltran Sanchez of Chino Valley and Evelyn Davis of Ganado, Arizona. They were passengers in separate vehicles.
The 3 women from Korea were visiting the Grand Canyon on the day of the crash and planned to then go to Las Vegas. A cell phone ping placed their rental car about a mile from the crash site.
Police now confirm that their rented BMW SUV was one of the vehicles involved in the crash. They found it burned beyond recognition.
On March 24, officials said they discovered more human remains in the debris of the wreckage, but identification of the remains has proven difficult due to the intensity and the duration of the fire.
