Department of Defense Plans Largest Migrant Detention Facility in Fort Bliss, Texas

The Department of Defense (DoD) is set to build the largest federal migrant detention center in the United States at Fort Bliss, Texas. This facility will have accommodations for up to 5,000 individuals who have entered the country illegally.

During a recent press briefing, Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson revealed that construction has already commenced and aims for an initial capacity of 1,000 beds to be operational by late August. Wilson emphasized that this facility is a vital step in addressing concerns about illegal immigration and supporting efforts for deportation.

Wilson stated, “This new center will be pivotal for the critical mission of deporting illegal aliens.” This aligns with the Trump administration’s commitment to safeguarding American interests by enforcing immigration laws more strictly.

The announcement comes in light of Indiana Governor Mike Braun’s plans to establish a detention center, named the “Speedway Slammer,” which will also accommodate up to 1,000 migrants. Braun has expressed pride in collaborating with President Trump and taking action against illegal immigration in a comprehensive manner.

Funding for the Fort Bliss facility originates from a recent reconciliation bill signed by Trump, which is designed to bolster state and local immigration enforcement partnerships. The legislation notably supports the 287(g) program, enhancing cooperation between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and local law enforcement.

The Trump administration continues to focus on deportation operations, suggesting that undocumented immigrants without criminal records should consider self-deportation. In a similar effort, a facility known as “Alligator Alcatraz” opened in Florida, aimed at facilitating deportations and supporting the increasing need for migrant detention.

The initiatives from both the federal and state levels illustrate a determined approach to handling illegal immigration, emphasizing security and the rule of law. This is a pivotal moment for American immigration policy, reflecting a firm stance on maintaining the nation’s integrity while also ensuring the safety of its citizens.
