New York City – Authorities are investigating the tragic deaths of 77-year-old Frank Thomas Olton and 78-year-old Maureen Olton, whose bodies were discovered in their home following a devastating fire on September 8. The elderly couple was found deceased by firefighters who responded to the blaze at their two-story residence in Queens, New York.

    What Happened:

The fire, which initially seemed to be an accidental incident, has since been linked to foul play. Police reports indicate that the couple may have been attacked before the fire was set. The NYPD is now actively searching for a suspect, identified as 42-year-old Jamel McGriff, who is considered armed and dangerous.

Security footage captured McGriff shortly after the incident, attempting to sell two cellphones at a local pawn shop. Surveillance also shows McGriff knocking at the couple’s back door earlier in the day and being let inside. He was later seen leaving the home in the afternoon.

The Fire Department quickly extinguished the flames, but unfortunately, both Frank and Maureen were found dead at the scene. Reports suggest that the husband, Frank, was found tied up in the basement, though details on how the couple died remain unconfirmed by officials.

    Reactions:

The NYPD’s investigation has raised concerns for public safety, with Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch urging the community to be vigilant and reporting that McGriff should be considered a threat. Neighbors described seeing an unfamiliar man asking to charge his cellphone before the incident, and local media reports also mentioned how worried neighbors had contacted the couple’s son, a paramedic with the New York City Fire Department, who made the tragic discovery.

    What’s Next:

Authorities are requesting the public’s help in locating McGriff, who is described as being in his 30s to 40s, with a dark complexion, medium build, and was last seen wearing a black hat, black jacket, blue jeans, and black sneakers. The NYPD has urged anyone with information about McGriff’s whereabouts or the incident to come forward.

    Closing:

The deaths of Frank and Maureen Olton have left the local community in shock, and the investigation continues as police work to locate the suspect. The case serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the unexpected and tragic events that can happen within our communities, and the importance of staying alert and supporting law enforcement as they seek justice for the victims.
