A fatal shooting at the Summer Chase Trailer Park on Mance Newton Road has claimed the life of 31-year-old Harleigh Michelle Dills of Dothan.
Dothan Police Lt. Scott Owens reported that officers responded to the scene shortly after 9:30 a.m. on January 24, 2025, following a report of a firearm assault. Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Dustin Joe Rigsbee, who allegedly admitted to a family member that he had shot Dills at their shared residence.
Police discovered Dills inside the home with a single gunshot wound to the upper body, reportedly inflicted by a high-caliber firearm. Investigators secured the scene and obtained a search warrant to gather forensic evidence.
Rigsbee fled to a residence in Jack, Alabama, where an hours-long standoff with law enforcement took place. Crisis negotiators, along with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) SWAT team and Coffee County Sheriff’s Office deputies, managed to convince Rigsbee to surrender peacefully.
He was taken to the Dothan Police Department for questioning and has since been charged with murder. Rigsbee is currently being held at the Dale County Jail without bond.
Dothan Police Chief William E. Benny expressed condolences to the victim’s loved ones, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dills’ family and friends during this difficult and tragic time.”
The Dothan Police Department also thanked the Dale County Sheriff’s Office, Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, and ALEA for their support in the case.
This remains a developing story, and additional updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
