A 46-year-old man was arrested for murder following an incident on Thursday evening, January 23, 2025. Police in Mmabatho were called to a scene at Motlhabeng village in Mahikeng.
North West police spokesperson, Colonel Adele Myburgh, reported that upon arrival, a family member allegedly directed officers to a house where they found an injured man lying on the floor with a stab wound. Inside the bedroom, the body of a woman, identified as Matshidiso Virginia Nqawa (39), was discovered in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.
“She was pronounced dead on the scene by Emergency and Medical Rescue Services (EMRS). Preliminary investigations suggest that a fight broke out between the woman and her boyfriend, who is now the suspect,” said Myburgh.
The boyfriend was initially placed under police guard at a local hospital before being discharged and detained at the police station. He is scheduled to appear in the Molopo Magistrate’s Court on January 27, 2025, facing a murder charge.
Acting North West Police Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, condemned the incident, emphasizing the need to protect vulnerable groups, including women and children, especially by those closest to them. He urged the community to resolve conflicts peacefully rather than resorting to violence.
