Poland has signed a new defence partnership with Ukraine aimed at strengthening its drone warfare capabilities. The agreement comes just days after a Russian drone incursion into Polish airspace reignited debate over the country’s air defence readiness.

    What Happened

Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced the deal during a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday. The agreement will allow Poland to benefit directly from Ukraine’s extensive battlefield experience with drones, which have played a pivotal role in the war with Russia.

“We want to benefit from your knowledge and skills, and we want Polish companies, both public and private, to be able to participate in this together,” Kosiniak-Kamysz told reporters.

    Ukraine’s Role

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal confirmed that Ukrainian troops and engineers will provide training and expertise to their Polish counterparts. He emphasized the importance of sharing hard-won lessons from Ukraine’s ongoing conflict.

“We are ready to share our experience in any conditions,” Shmyhal said. “But the key thing is air defence from Russian drones and missiles.”

    Why It Matters

The move reflects Poland’s heightened concern about drone and missile threats after last week’s violation of its airspace by a Russian drone. With NATO’s eastern flank facing increased pressure, Warsaw has sought both technological and tactical solutions to modernize its defences.

    What Happens Next

Polish and Ukrainian defence industries are expected to collaborate closely under the agreement, opening the door for joint projects and innovation in unmanned aerial systems. Both sides signaled that training and cooperation will begin soon, though specific timelines have not been disclosed.
