Olivia-Grace Huxter, a beloved eight-year-old pupil from Penrhys Primary School in the Rhondda, tragically passed away after suffering a medical episode on Wednesday afternoon. Despite the efforts of school staff and paramedics, Olivia-Grace died at the hospital, leaving her family, friends, and school community heartbroken.

    What Happened

Emergency services were called to Penrhys Primary School when Olivia-Grace became unwell. Staff and paramedics worked tirelessly to assist her, but sadly, she was pronounced dead at the hospital. Olivia-Grace was a cherished member of the Year Four class, described by her peers and teachers as a “beautiful” and “adored” student.

In a poignant tribute to her daughter, Olivia-Grace’s mother, Melanie, shared her heartbreak on social media:
“My beautiful beautiful baby girl, I can’t eat, I can’t sleep without you. I’m so grateful I was able to hold you and sing you to sleep one last time with your favourite bedtime song. You were wanted, admired, and absolutely adored by everyone lucky enough to have known you. I don’t know what life will look like now. I love you to the moon and back …Twice.”

    Community Response and School Support

Following the tragic event, Penrhys Primary School closed its doors to all pupils on Thursday, October 9, as the school community dealt with the trauma. The head teacher thanked parents for their messages of support and reassured them that the school would reopen on Friday. The school described Olivia-Grace as a “cherished member” of her class, and her absence will be deeply felt by everyone at the school.

In an outpouring of community support, children from the school went around the Penrhys estate to collect money for Olivia-Grace’s family, a gesture described by local councillor Julie Edwards as “amazing.”

    School and Community Tributes

Gaynor Davies, director of education and inclusion services at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, expressed her sorrow at the news:
“I am extremely saddened to hear about the tragic and sudden death of a pupil at Penrhys Primary School. My deepest and heartfelt sympathies go out to her family, friends, and the wider school community. Olivia-Grace was a cherished member of the school, and she will be missed by everyone.”

Davies also thanked the school staff for their quick response in administering first aid and ensuring Olivia-Grace received prompt medical attention. The educational psychology and learner support service will be available to help both pupils and staff cope with the loss, and the school will continue to offer support to those affected.

    A Lasting Memory

Olivia-Grace’s passing has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of her family, schoolmates, and teachers. Her memory will live on as a reminder of her joy, kindness, and the impact she had on everyone she met.

This story may be updated as further details about the memorial and support efforts for Olivia-Grace’s family are shared.
