In a tragic and bizarre incident early Sunday morning, a 37-year-old woman was struck and dragged by an SUV in East Harlem, leading to her death. The incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. on East 118th Street and Third Avenue, where the woman attempted to jump into the rear seat of a white SUV that was stopped.

According to the police, after the woman tried to enter the vehicle, the driver suddenly accelerated, dragging her several feet down the street as the SUV sped east on East 118th Street. The driver did not stop and continued to flee the scene, leaving the woman behind.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and rushed the woman to Harlem Hospital. However, despite efforts to save her life, she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Authorities have not released the victim’s name, and they are working to gather more details about the incident, including whether the woman knew the driver or why she attempted to enter the vehicle.

The driver, who remains unidentified and at large, is believed to have been driving a white SUV. The police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and are asking for any witnesses or individuals with information to come forward.

This tragic event highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of safety on the streets, particularly during late-night hours. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information to contact the local police.

As of now, the driver has not been apprehended, and the police are still piecing together the details of the case to determine whether this was a random act or if there were other factors involved in the victim’s attempt to get into the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
