Authorities believe that early on Saturday morning, a high school student was shot and killed.
At at 12:20 a.m. on February 1, officers responded to the 600 block of 8th Terrace West after a Shot Spotter alert was triggered, according to the Birmingham Police Department.
This facility is located a few blocks north of Legion Field in the College Hills area. When police arrived, they found a wrecked car in a house’s front yard and a person on the ground who looked to have been shot in the chest. The subject was pronounced dead at the site by emergency medical services.
According to police records, the coroner’s office identified the dead as Ronald Bennett Jr., an 18-year-old Birmingham native. The Birmingham Police Department believes the victim was particularly targeted in this assault.
This is the city’s tenth murder inquiry in 2025.
