Actor Anthony Hopkins is sharing the story of how he overcame alcoholism and turned his life around nearly 50 years ago.

The Oscar-winning actor says he was drinking heavily when he had a wake-up call. He realized he could have hurt himself or someone else while driving under the influence.

Hopkins remembers thinking he could have killed a family. That’s when he knew he needed help. He reached out and started on the road to recovery.

He recalls attending a meeting and feeling a sense of peace and purpose. He says the urge to drink suddenly disappeared.

Hopkins feels grateful for his long and successful life. He encourages anyone struggling with alcohol to seek help, emphasizing that it’s a condition, not a moral failing.

He says his life has been wonderful after sobriety. He is thankful for the chance to keep working and living a full life.
