    Hurricane Melissa Threatens Caribbean

Kingston, Jamaica – Hurricane Melissa, a powerful storm, is heading towards Jamaica, bringing concerns of strong winds and heavy rainfall. The storm is expected to bring a lot of rain, possibly causing dangerous flooding and landslides.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says that some areas of eastern Jamaica could see a lot of rain, while western Haiti could also get a significant amount. They warn that this could lead to very bad flooding and landslides.

Melissa is expected to pass over Jamaica and then move towards southeast Cuba and the southeast Bahamas.

Sadly, the storm has already caused the loss of lives in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

As of Sunday night, Melissa was located southwest of Kingston, Jamaica, and southwest of Guantánamo, Cuba. The storm has strong winds and is moving slowly westward. There is a possibility it could become even stronger.

Officials in Jamaica are urging people to take the storm seriously and be prepared.

The hurricane is also expected to hit eastern Cuba. Warnings have been issued for several provinces in Cuba, with forecasts of heavy rain and storm surge along the coast.

Some experts believe that Melissa could be one of the strongest hurricanes to hit Jamaica in many years. They caution that the storm could cause significant damage and make it difficult to assess the situation afterwards due to flooding and blocked roads.

In addition to heavy rain, Melissa could cause a dangerous storm surge along Jamaica’s southern coast.

The storm has already brought heavy rain to the Dominican Republic, leading to school and government office closures in some areas. Many homes have been damaged, and people have been forced to leave their homes.

In Haiti, the storm has damaged crops, which is a serious concern as many people in the country are already facing hunger.

Melissa is expected to continue bringing heavy rain to southern Haiti and the southern Dominican Republic in the coming days.
