A man in Tennessee has admitted his part in the death of a young woman, Mya Fuller, who was killed in 2022.
Mya Fuller, who was 22 years old, was shot and killed in a remote area of Wilson County.
Ty’Shawne Bowles pleaded guilty to helping in the kidnapping of Mya. He will spend 12 years in prison. Bowles got involved because of a disagreement between his sister, Taiyana Tipton, and Mya, officials said.
Taiyana Tipton had argued with Mya the night before Mya was killed, according to a news report.
Tipton told Bowles who Mya was, and Bowles used social media to invite her to a party. Mya went to the party after work, where she and Tipton got into a fight.
After the fight, Tipton put Mya in the trunk of her car and drove to Wilson County, where she shot Mya seven times, the report said.
Bowles said he saw the fight and heard Tipton say to open the trunk, but he didn’t see Mya being put in the car. He said he drove behind his sister’s car for a while.
Tipton admitted to all the charges related to Mya’s death in May and was sentenced to life in prison.
Mya’s mother, Tonya Fuller, said at a hearing that she didn’t agree with Bowles’ 12-year sentence.
She said Mya was treated like trash and that the defense did nothing for a year and a half. She added that her daughter was smart and kind and didn’t deserve what happened to her.
District Attorney Jason Lawson said that people involved in crimes have different levels of responsibility. He said Bowles invited Mya to the party, so he is responsible, but the evidence doesn’t show that he wanted her to die or helped kill her.
La’Myra Pipkins is also charged in Mya’s death. Pipkins is charged with kidnapping and first-degree murder related to the kidnapping.
Her trial is scheduled for November.
