LINCOLN, Neb. — The streets of Lincoln are grieving after a tragic collision at the intersection of 70th and L Streets on Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of 75‑year‑old Donald Wilson. According to the Lincoln Police Department, Wilson was driving his 2020 black Nissan Kicks north on 70th Street just after 12:30 p.m. when he attempted a left turn onto L Street near CHI Health St. Elizabeth and was struck by a 2021 gray Ford Explorer traveling southbound.

Witnesses at the scene told police the driver of the Explorer, a 24‑year‑old Lincoln man, was driving erratically—speeding and weaving in and out of traffic just moments before impact. The official preliminary investigation confirms the Explorer was southbound on 70th while the Nissan was turning left, a dangerous scenario that ended in tragedy.

Wilson was rushed to the hospital after the crash, but sadly did not survive his injuries. His passenger, a 74‑year‑old Lincoln woman, was also taken to hospital and remains in serious condition. The Explorer’s driver sustained minor injuries and is recovering.

In the hours following the crash, Lincoln Police released a statement confirming the victim’s name and age, and restated the urgency of the investigation. They are asking anyone who may have observed fast or erratic driving in the area of 70th and L Streets around midday Wednesday to come forward. Tips can be submitted by calling 402‑441‑6000, or anonymously to Lincoln–Lancaster County Crime Stoppers at 402‑475‑3600, via their website or through the P3 mobile app.

For those who knew Donald Wilson, this is a deeply personal loss. Friends and neighbors describe him as a kind‑hearted, caring individual who devoted time and attention to others—someone whose presence brought joy, warmth, and light into everyday moments. Though the news details the crash, the true weight of the loss lies in the friendships, laughter and community spirit now silenced. (Family has requested extra privacy at this time.)

As the investigation continues, officials have reminded drivers of the importance of paying full attention behind the wheel—especially in busy or residential intersections. While the exact circumstances are still being pieced together, what remains clear is that one decision to weave through traffic had devastating consequences for an entire community.

Donald Wilson will be remembered not only for the tragedy but for the life he lived: caring, connected, and meaningful. The community in Lincoln mourns his loss and holds hope for healing for the injured passenger. The road ahead is one of reflection, and for many, a reminder of how fragile and precious each moment can be behind the wheel.
