It’s with a heavy heart that we share the news of the sudden passing of Antonio “AJ” Jewell Jr., a bright young man from the Clarke Central High School Class of 2022 and a proud Gladiator. He was found unresponsive on the night of November 6, 2025, just past 8 p.m., on Madison Avenue in downtown Athens. Emergency crews attempted life-saving measures, but AJ was pronounced dead at the scene.

AJ was just 22 years old. His obituary confirms he was born on August 20, 2003, and his life ended on November 6, 2025. The death occurred near The View at NODA apartment complex in Athens, according to police and local news outlets. The circumstances are under active investigation by the Athens‑Clarke County Police Department.

During his time at Clarke Central, AJ stood out not just for his athletic ability, but for his kindness, spirit, and dedication. Teammates and teachers remember his bright smile, encouraging words, and the way he lifted up others. He proudly wore the Gladiator jersey, but more importantly, he lived the spirit behind it—integrity, courage, and community.

The school’s athletics department posted a heartfelt message: “AJ was a proud Gladiator who represented Clarke Central with heart and dedication as a student-athlete. His spirit, kindness, and energy will be remembered by all who knew him.” They extended deepest condolences to his mother, Mrs. Latoya Jewell, and the entire Jewell family.

In the wake of his passing, messages of support, love, and prayer have poured in—from classmates, former coaches, and the wider Athens community. “My heart is truly broken… Lord please wrap your loving arms around Toya & family,” wrote one mourner. The community is gathering around the family and each other, standing united in grief and remembrance.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Gardenview Funeral Chapel, and service details will be shared with the community when finalized. AJ’s memory will live on through the countless lives he touched—the friend who lifted others, the student-athlete who led by example, the young man whose light will not be forgotten.

Antonio “AJ” Jewell Jr. may have left us far too soon, but his legacy of kindness, energy, and courage remains. Once a Gladiator, always a Gladiator.
