On the evening of November 17, 2025, Dover was shaken by heartbreaking news: Kathy M. Fruchey, 69, passed away after being struck by a cargo van. The crash happened just after 6 p.m. at the familiar intersection of North Wooster Avenue and Karle Alley — a crossroads many in the community knew well.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a white 2021 Ram Promaster 1500 cargo van, driven by an 80-year-old man from Dover, was heading north in the right lane when the collision occurred. Kathy was walking in that same lane when she was struck.

First responders from Dover EMS rushed to her side, and she was initially taken to Union Hospital. But her injuries were too severe; she was then flown by MedFlight to Akron Summa Hospital. Despite medical teams’ best efforts, Kathy was pronounced dead there.

The driver of the van was reported to be wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. Authorities say the Ohio State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation, with support from Dover Police and Fire Departments.

Kathy’s passing has cast a deep shadow over the community. Those who knew her remember her as a gentle, kind-hearted presence — always ready with a caring word, always willing to help. She had a steady warmth that made people feel seen and supported, and her loss is being deeply felt by family, friends, and neighbors alike.

In the hours since the news broke, the community has quietly come together, sharing memories of her compassion and her generous spirit. It’s clear that Kathy’s legacy won’t just be in how she passed, but in how she lived: selflessly, thoughtfully, and with love.

As the investigation continues, loved ones are holding on to what meant most about her — the way she lit up a room, the way she cared for others, and the simple but powerful mark she left on Dover. Rest in peace, Kathy Fruchey. You will be remembered, and you will be missed.
