Actress Kate Winslet recently shared a humorous story about her first encounter with King Charles III back in 1996.
Winslet, then a young actress, attended the premiere of “Sense and Sensibility” where she was scheduled to meet the then-Prince Charles. She confessed that she hadn’t fully grasped the formality of the occasion. She was wearing a lace outfit that turned out to be more revealing than she had realized.
As King Charles approached, Winslet had a moment of panic, realizing the sheerness of her attire. Fortunately, she had worn a coat, which she quickly wrapped around herself to avoid any embarrassment.
Despite the wardrobe mishap, Winslet spoke fondly of King Charles, describing him as a “gentle, personable individual.”
Years later, Winslet had the opportunity to meet King Charles again at The King’s Foundation awards ceremony.
During a recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Winslet recounted a funny moment she shared with fellow actress Meryl Streep before meeting the King at the event. Both actresses were unsure about the proper etiquette, specifically whether they needed to curtsy. After a brief discussion, they decided it was best to err on the side of caution and curtsy to the King.
