The Houston Texans emerged victorious against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night with a final score of 23-19. The game, filled with suspense, saw the Bills mounting a late-game comeback attempt that ultimately fell short.

In the dying moments of the game, with just two minutes left on the clock, the Bills faced a daunting 4th and 27 situation. Demonstrating resilience, they managed to keep their hopes alive with a successful lateral pass to Khalil Shakir. However, their momentum was halted when they failed to convert on a 4th and 6 in the Texans’ red zone. Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s pass was intercepted, sealing the Texans’ victory.

This win marks the second consecutive year that the Texans have defeated the Bills. What makes this victory even more notable is that it was achieved with backup quarterback Davis Mills leading the charge. Filling in for the injured CJ Stroud, Mills has maintained a perfect 3-0 record as the team’s starting quarterback this season.

Mills showcased a strong performance, completing passes for 153 yards and throwing two touchdowns.

However, the Bills’ quarterback, Josh Allen, faced significant pressure throughout the game. The Texans’ defense proved to be a formidable force, sacking Allen eight times. The relentless pressure even forced Allen to leave the game temporarily in the first half due to a wrist injury.

With this victory, the Texans improve their season record to 6-5. They remain a contender in the AFC wild card race, positioning themselves just half a game behind the Jacksonville Jaguars for the final wild card spot.

Meanwhile, the Bills now hold a 7-4 record, falling behind the New England Patriots in the AFC East race.
The Texans’ ability to secure this win, especially with a backup quarterback, highlights their team depth and adaptability. For the Bills, the loss underscores the importance of consistent performance and protecting their quarterback from intense defensive pressure. As the season progresses, both teams will need to address their strengths and weaknesses to secure a spot in the playoffs.
