Rep. Eric Swalwell, a Democrat from California, has announced he will run for governor of the state in 2026.
Swalwell, a frequent critic of President Trump, made his announcement on a late-night television show.
He told a San Francisco newspaper that as governor, he would focus on keeping Trump’s policies out of California and work to improve the state’s economy and lower costs for families. He said he wants to help businesses grow and modernize the state.
Swalwell has promised to be a strong leader for California if he is elected.
