On the evening of November 2 in southeast Atlanta, 23‑year-old model and mother Shamay Pitt agreed to meet her former boyfriend, 25‑year-old Joshua Woodruff — thinking it might bring closure. What followed was a nightmare she barely lived through. According to Shamay, once he got into her car, their calm conversation spiraled into violence. “He steps back, he steps forward, and he starts shooting me,” she recalled, her ears ringing as bullets tore through her body.

She was shot ten times inside the car. But the horror didn’t end there. Instead of calling 911 or stopping, Woodruff allegedly drove her across several Georgia counties — from Snapfinger Road in DeKalb County all the way to Douglasville — with Shamay bleeding in the passenger seat. She begged him: “Just lay me on the grass, so I can breathe. I don’t want to die in this car.”

Hours later, Woodruff pulled up to WellStar Douglas Hospital in Douglasville. Hospital staff and security intervened immediately, detaining him as paramedics rushed Shamay to the nearby Kennestone Hospital for emergency surgery.

Authorities arrested Woodruff on the spot. He now faces charges of aggravated assault and false imprisonment. As of the latest update, he’s being held at Douglas County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

Shamay survived — and now, amid the pain and recovery, she’s speaking out. She says she’s fighting for herself and for her young son. “He really is my reason,” she told reporters.

Friends and community members have rallied around her; a fundraiser is planned to help with medical expenses and long-term recovery. Supporters say it’s a miracle she’s alive and call attention to just how dangerous it is when “red flags” in relationships are ignored.

Shamay urges other women — especially those seeing the early warning signs of abuse — to trust their gut and run. Her message is simple: when danger shows up disguised as love, the risk is nothing short of life or death.
