HOOVER, Ala. — Christina Chambers, a cherished former WBRC 6 News sports reporter and devoted mother, was tragically found dead Tuesday morning inside her Hoover home, a case local authorities are treating as an apparent murder-suicide. Chambers and her husband were discovered unresponsive by a family member just before 9 a.m. in the 700 block of Highland Manor Court; both had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. A 3-year-old child believed to be their son was in the house at the time and was unharmed, police said.

For many across Alabama, Chambers’ death has hit particularly hard. She first joined WBRC in 2015 and quickly became a recognizable and respected face in the station’s sports coverage, known for her sharp wit, warmth, and genuine love for the athletes and communities she covered.

Chambers’ rise in journalism came from humble roots. A native of Cullman, Alabama, she was a four-year Division I scholarship athlete at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, competing in cross country and track before earning a degree in journalism. Her broadcast career began at WLTZ NBC38 in Columbus, Georgia, and grew through roles at WAKA in Montgomery and Comcast Sports Southeast in Atlanta, where she covered Auburn University sports and Friday night high school football.

At WBRC, Chambers was a fixture of Friday night football sideline reporting and high-profile local events like the Mercedes Marathon, where her passion for running matched her professional dedication. Even after stepping away from full-time reporting in July 2021, she stayed connected to the station as a freelance contributor during the 2025 football season.

Beyond the newsroom, Chambers was beloved for her vibrant spirit. Coworkers remember her as “one of the sweetest, most loving people” with an infectious enthusiasm for life, her son, and the community she served. Tributes have poured in from former colleagues, students, and public officials, all underscoring her impact as both a journalist and a mentor.

Her influence extended into education as well. After leaving full-time broadcast journalism, Chambers taught broadcast journalism at Thompson High School and later worked in corporate communications. She was honored as the Alabama Scholastic Press Association’s Advisor of the Year and led student teams to statewide recognition.

As Hoover Police continue their investigation, they have emphasized that there is no threat to the public. Still, many in Alabama remain in shock, confronting the sudden loss of a reporter who brought energy, empathy, and humanity to every story she told. Communities from her hometown to the broader Southeast are mourning a life that celebrated sport, family, and connection.
