It started like any normal holiday shopping trip for Walmart customers in Biloxi, Mississippi — until the moment someone sliced into a loaf of bread and found a razor blade hidden inside. What unfolded over the past two weeks has left shoppers shaken and local police scrambling to piece together how a basic grocery item became the center of a disturbing public safety incident.

On December 5, a customer at the Walmart Supercenter on CT Switzer Drive made an unsettling discovery: razor blades concealed inside a packaged loaf of bread. Less than 72 hours later, on December 8, a similar report came from the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Pass Road after another shopper found a blade in a loaf they had purchased. These initial complaints didn’t just raise eyebrows — they sounded the first alarms in a bizarre case of alleged food tampering.

Then came another report on December 14, prompting Walmart employees to take action. Store staff pulled bread products from the shelves and uncovered multiple loaves that had been tampered with, each with razor blades pushed through the packaging and into the bread. Thankfully, no one was injured in any of the incidents — but the risk was real enough to prompt an immediate police investigation.

Investigators from the Biloxi Police Department poured over surveillance footage and quickly identified a suspect: 33‑year‑old Camille Benson of Texas. Officers arrested her on Tuesday and charged her with attempted mayhem, a serious felony that suggests a deliberate intent to cause harm, even if no injuries ultimately occurred. Benson’s bond was set at $100,000.

In a statement responding to the unsettling events, Walmart emphasized that customer health and safety remain a top priority. The company said it had removed all potentially affected bread products from the two Biloxi stores and was working closely with law enforcement as the investigation unfolded. Customers who had purchased bread from either location were urged to inspect their loaves and report any unusual findings, with full refunds offered for any tampered products.

Police currently believe the tampering was isolated to the two Biloxi Walmart locations, and no other stores are thought to have been targeted. Authorities haven’t yet released a motive for Benson’s alleged actions, and details about her legal representation remain unclear. The department continues to urge caution and awareness among shoppers, especially during the busy holiday season.

For many in the Biloxi community, what should have been a routine errand turned into a chilling reminder of how quickly everyday life can be disrupted. As the investigation continues, neighbors and shoppers alike are left wondering not just how it happened — but why.
