It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Adelaide “Addie” Hill, a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, and friend, who was taken to her eternal home by our gracious God on January 22, 2025. Addie was an 8th grader at our local school and was loved dearly by all who knew her. Her departure has left an irreplaceable void in the lives of her family, friends, classmates, and the entire community.
While we mourn the loss of such a vibrant young life, we find comfort and peace in the promises of our Savior, Jesus Christ. As we face the unbearable pain of saying goodbye, we hold fast to the words of Scripture: “The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. May the name of the Lord be praised.” (Job 1:21) and “My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:27-28). In these verses, we are reminded that Addie has been welcomed into the loving arms of her Savior, where she now experiences eternal peace and joy. Her spirit is secure in the hands of God, and nothing can take her away from Him.
Addie was a bright, loving, and compassionate young girl who touched the hearts of everyone she encountered. Her laughter, kindness, and joyful spirit were a constant source of light in the lives of her family, friends, and teachers. At school, she was not only known for her intelligence and determination but also for her genuine heart and her ability to make those around her feel special and loved. Addie had a way of bringing people together, offering a smile or kind word when someone needed it most. Her presence was a blessing, and her absence leaves a profound sense of grief for all who knew her.
Addie’s family, including her parents Jess and Dan Hill, her sister Silas, her grandparents Marcus and Barb Manthey, and her extended family, are understandably devastated by the loss of their precious daughter and granddaughter. To them, Addie was more than a loved one — she was a treasure, a light in their lives, and a constant reminder of God’s goodness. Jess and Dan, as parents, were her biggest supporters, and her love for them was evident in every conversation, every hug, and every interaction. She was a devoted sister to Silas, and their bond was one of deep love and friendship.
Though the Hill family is grieving deeply, they take comfort in knowing that Addie was a baptized child of God. As Christians, we know that Addie’s baptismal identity is forever secure in Christ. She was a child of God in life and now, she continues as one in eternal life with Him. As her family, friends, and community mourn her loss, we do so with the assurance that we will one day be reunited with Addie in heaven, where there will be no more tears, no more pain, and no more suffering. Until that day, we carry her memory with us, and we take solace in the knowledge that she is in the presence of her Savior.
The school community where Addie was a student is also grieving the loss of this sweet girl. Her classmates, teachers, and staff members will remember her as a beloved friend who was always ready to share a laugh or offer a helping hand. The faculty and staff are mourning alongside the Hill family, and our hearts are heavy for all those who are coping with the emotional pain of losing such a young and bright soul.
In this time of unimaginable grief, we are reminded of the call to “mourn with those who mourn” (Romans 12:15). We recognize the pain and the hardship that comes with the loss of a child, and we stand together in love and support for the Hill family. While no words can ease the depth of their sorrow, we can offer our prayers, our presence, and our generosity. In response to this sudden loss, a GoFundMe campaign has been created to help alleviate the financial burdens that may arise for the Hill family during this difficult time. The funds raised will help with any immediate needs they may have, allowing them to focus on what truly matters — finding comfort in God’s promises and cherishing the memories of their precious Addie.
If you feel moved to contribute, please know that any donation, no matter how small, will go a long way in providing support to the Hill family. Your generosity will help them navigate the days, weeks, and months ahead, as they find strength in the love of their family, friends, and faith community. If you are unable to contribute financially, please consider sharing the fundraising link with others or offering prayers for the Hill family as they grieve the loss of their dear Addie.
As we grieve together, we also celebrate the life of Addie Hill. Though she was taken from us far too soon, she leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and joy that will continue to impact those who knew her. Addie’s memory will live on in the stories we share, in the lives she touched, and in the ways we continue to honor her spirit. Though we feel the ache of her absence, we also feel the hope of the resurrection, knowing that we will one day be reunited with her in the presence of our Savior.
To Jess, Dan, Silas, Marcus, Barb, and the entire Hill family, our hearts are with you. We are praying for you, standing with you, and mourning alongside you. We trust in the love and grace of God to carry you through this season of sorrow, and we look forward to the day when we will be together with Addie again in glory.
Rest in peace, Addie Hill. You will never be forgotten. Your light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved you. May God grant your family peace, comfort, and strength as they move forward in faith, knowing that you are forever safe in His hands.
